My reference organization is Havells India Limited where I worked for almost 5 years. It is one of the largest & India's fastest growing electrical and power distribution equipment manufacturer.

What does it do?

Havells India Ltd is a billion-dollar-plus organization, and is one of the largest & India's fastest growing electrical and power distribution equipment manufacturer with products ranging from Industrial & Domestic Circuit Protection Switchgear, Cables & Wires, Motors, Fans, Power Capacitors, CFL Lamps, Luminaires for Domestic, Commercial & Industrial applications, Modular Switches, Water Heaters and Domestic Appliances covering the entire gamut of household, commercial and industrial electrical needs.

What is your perception of the HR department at this organization?

In Havells HR plays very important role, it contributes the organization in in achieving goals and success. The main objective is to manage people of the organization. They help organization to meet its organizational needs of quality workforce to achieve competitive advantage in this global market. Its role includes performing following activities in the organization.

Our HR conducts job study activities regularly to keep check on the performance of the employees through various methods like by reviewing the job responsibilities of the current employees with the help of questionnaire and face to face interviews. They gather information about capability and efficiency of the employees by doing job study. They also gather information about the issues and challenges faced by the employees in performing their duties through their job study method. If they find any problem they update the job description and make the job more challenging to improve the performance of the employee.

Our HR uses various techniques for job designing like first they explore the task and then do sorting and evaluation of tasks. Then job responsibilities are designed based on the task so that employee can perform it smoothly.

Job analysis is based on real employees and their real duties. They do it by various methodologies like they apply observation method where they directly observe the employee and record their behavior, activities and task. For example our job analyst visit us sometimes in working hours and observe our way of working, they sometimes do ask questions of our way of doing tasks.

They also apply interview methods sometimes where they ask questions to both incumbents and supervisors in either an individual or a group setting, they also use questionnaire sometimes to relate employees with their job responsibilities.

In my organization HR make job description by reviewing the job responsibilities, analyzing the work duties, task and responsibilities to fill the position, researching other similar jobs of the similar companies through internet.
