Sales promotions are measures that are designed to increase sales, increase market demand or make the product widely available. Common examples of sales promotion are discounts, free gifts of different types, point of purchase displays and contests. The sales promotions may be directed towards distributors or reseller, towards the company's own sales persons or towards the consumer. Some common examples of sales promotions directed at consumers include coupons available on mobile phones, coupons available on line or inserts in newspapers. For instance, the Subway card with six stickers entitles the customer to a free sandwich (Tellis GJ 1997). Online interactive promotion games are now available through the internet.
