ONE
Indicate the content or scope of the text:
This article relates to the relationship between individuals and their work. The scope of the article is related to motivation. The use of motivation for improving personal, task, and environmental characteristics is considered. In addition, motivation is considered as a dynamic internal state that resuts from personal and situational factors. Finally, the link between motivation and the performance of employees is considered.

Outline the main argument and conclusions made by the author/s

Discuss the reliability of the text

This main argument of the author is that to achieve high levels of performance, employers depend on their employees to perform at levels that positively affect the bottom line. So they need to determine what motivates them. The primary research of the study found that the top five factors that motivate respondents on their jobs are good wages, full appreciation for work done, job security, promotion and growth in the organization and interesting work.

Discuss the text's relevance or usefulness for answering the set question does it agree or disagree in part with another source you've read, for example?

The usefulness of the text is limited. For example, it does not directly answer the questions as to why managers prefer their employees to work in teams. Is it easier to motivate employees in a team? It might be possible that if a manger appreciates an employee in a team he is motivated strongly. Further, it might be possible that the fact that an individual is in a team gives him greater job security. Or work in a team might make the work more interesting for the person.
Essentially, the study provides a prescription to organizations but does not say which type of persons should be recruited that will be motivated strongly.

State the strengths and limitations of the text

This strength of the text is that it considers factors that have been derived from theoretical background and has used subgroups that have reported a higher positive significance for a factors importance (Wiley.C, 1997: 270) . The primary research has been done well, however, the study does not give the factors that motivates the employees to give their best. In addition, the survey has been carried out in context of certain employees, but employees in different industries are likely to be motivated though different factors.

Present your view or reaction to the text58

My view of the text is that even through the text uses a survey and collects primary data, it provides a result that is well-known. The factors and their ranking will differ from industry to industry, from region to region, and from company to company.
