You are employed at a large global high-tech company that has offices worldwide in such places as Tokyo, London, Bombay, Toronto, Mexico City, Chicago, and Seattle to name a few. Although the sales has been reasonable these past few months even with the global economic crises, an internal crises exists related to employee morale being at an all-time low. There are many different beliefs on what is right and what is wrong across the board, especially when it comes to the cultural and communication differences and the technological equipment challenges. There are also concerns regarding the selfishness of the employees; where the employees do not enjoy working as a team. You supervisor has tasked you as the as the VP of the Service Department to prepare a research paper that will communicate information and solutions as well as provide a foundation of knowledge so that you can work with your peers and employees to solve these problems. Discuss the following questions in dept.

1. Analyze and evaluate the different leadership theories and behavior approaches, including the Tuckman four stages of group development model.
2. Evaluate the importance of the internal environmental factors that include the cultural, language, political, and technological differences.
3. Apply the necessary steps to overcome the identified challenges with the different sources of power that must be taken into account.

Leadership is a process through which an individual influences behavior of others towards attainment of organizational goals. Leadership results in follower behavior which is very important aspect of goal-direction. Leadership theories can be classified into following categories:
Trait theories: These theories identify specific trait or behavior demonstrated by leaders. If leadership is associated with specific traits, people with these qualities might not be leaders, and then such theories do not explain this behavior.
Contingency theories: These theories are related to particular variables related to environment that determine which particular style of leadership is best suited for a situation.

Situational theories: These theories propose that leaders take best course of action based on situational variables.

Behavioural theories: These theories of leadership are based on the belief that leaders are made and not born. These theories state that leaders can learn to become leaders through teaching and observation.

Participative theories: These theories suggest that successful leaders are those who take input of others into decision making. Leaders can encourage participation and contributions from team members and make them feel more important. However it is upto leaders to allow others or not to provide inputs.

Management theories: These theories focus on supervision, training and mentoring for group performance. They are based on system of reward and punishment. Managerial theories are mostly used in organizational setting where employees are expected to perform.
