The CEO of a large company has retained you as a management consultant to look into an area of concern that she has. With all of the recent corporate scandals like Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, and ImClone, she is wondering how she can avoid these sorts of problems within her company. She has asked you to research and prepare a report that summarizes the various kinds of power she has at her disposal and how this power could be effectively utilized to avoid these sorts of problems within her own company.

Prepare a 4-5 page report in which you:

1. There are a myriad of leadership models, most of which discuss sources of power. Using the model presented in your text and accessing other sources as supporting material, list and explain the sources of power that the CEO of a large company typically has at her disposal.

2. Describe how these powers can be used to avoid the various operational, administrative, and ethical problems experienced by companies. Please respond to this question by identifying three specific business problems that can be addressed through the use of "influence tactics." For each specific problem, describe the influence tactic that should be used, the source of power behind that influence tactic, and why you believe that this influence tactic will effectively address that problem.

Introduction

In any company, the CEO has many powers that she can use to take various decisions and achieve the objectives and goals of the business. She is working at the top management level to handle and view the proper execution of all matters of the business. She is the leader for managers and employees. The organizations are involved in various kinds of activities and CEO has many tasks to handle. Sometimes the managers at middle levels use their powers for their own benefits which is a total exploitation of the resources of the company, the interests of the other employees of the organization and the interests of those who are any how associated with the them like the investors, share holders, creditors etc. (Zaccaro & Kilmoski, 2001).

These kinds of scandals get reveal after the company suffers losses. Then the top management of the company comes to know what they could have done to stop such kinds of scandals and secure the company from such losses. The problem with top management is that they use all their powers to motivate the employees to work for betterment of the company and still, such of fraudulent acts happen. The top management or the CEO is required to change their strategies to deal with such situations. Here, the CEO needs to adapt her leadership style to face this challenge with better formulated plan. She needs to review the major areas in HRM where there is a scope for such fraudulent activities.

After reviewing the various other fraudulent scandals like Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, and ImClone, the CEO needs to apply her leadership traits and pass a message to her managers and all other employees that she is the one who is keeping an eye on every fraudulent activity. She does not have to threaten them that they will be fired if found getting involved in such crimes and use her forces to harm them. Rather, she needs to use her influential powers and can play a role of the tough leader who will not let such things happen in her ...
