A real-world situation that could benefit from the paradigm shift away from "conflict is negative" toward "constructive controversy" whereby different perspectives can promote quality decision-making, problem-solving, and learning, would be the conflict between Democrats and Republicans within the Congress concerning the best methodologies by which to stabilize the American economy, as well as reduce the high poverty level within the richest country on the planet. This is a situation in which there is a requirement for each side to analyze the perspectives of the other parties in order to increase the level of quality decision-making and respect to these issues. In addition, constructive controversy in the form of dialogue and compromise between these parties will make for a situation in which problem-solving can be conducted at a much higher level with a much higher probability of increasing the economic stability of the nation.
