I. McDonald's Green Initiatives
McDonald's has engaged its employees in a 'green' inspired workplace habits. It's home office has a Green Team Steering Committee which is composed of 14 members who represent leadership and passion in championing environmental initiatives. They have initiated green events to show their commitment to life's sustainability. Their "Green Ambassadors" will be constantly communicating with other branches and the public throughout the year in 2010 to instill knowledge and promote environmental efforts. Aside from that, they have developed an orientation program video for the new employees on applying green work habits in their day to day routines.
In Green Month 2009, McDonald's home office held 41 events on recycling and donation which yielded personal electronics, personal shredding and other boxes of shoes, clothing and food. Their Green & Growing corporate website has been created and had become a tool for educating visitors in their green efforts. Nearly 40 percent of their home office employees have attended a green event during the year.
Some of McDonald's branches have adopted measures in reducing the energy consumption of its kitchens by using networking equipment from Echelon Corporation. One of the McDonald's restaurant in Florida is digging 350 feet deep below so that the new restaurant will be heated and cooled with geothermal energy.
