First of all, as you examine "The Storm" by Watteau, I feel that he is more delicate and subdued in his execution of this piece and color usage. Research also shows that there is a "sweetness of his palette, a homage to Rubens and the colorism of sixteenth-century Venetian painting recast in delicate pastels to suit the scale and aesthetic of Rococo décor" (https://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/watt/hd_watt.htm).

Likewise, I feel that he also uses color so well in this painting as his warm and pastel tones create mood and also a lyrical tone. I also detect an interplay of light and dark in this piece. I feel like this piece shows the power of the storm, almost personifying it, as the people struggle to gather their work and food before ...
