Power and Politics

Politics, simply put, is the social phenomenon by which groups, communities and organizations make decisions. When we say politics, civil government, relations and leadership soon come to mind. This of course is true. Society is a massive open system, a group of people organized under a covenant - the constitution and the law. Politics however is observed in every group whatever their nature (primary, secondary & referential). In organizations, social relations that involve authority and power is political in nature usually regulated by an empowered individual or subgroup (the power elite) and the actions & tactics taken on by the organization and key members to create, influence and implement policy. When we study the science of politics, we delve into the machinations behind political behaviour, specifically the acquisition and application of Power. Political Power is held by a group of people in society or a set of individuals in organizations that allows them to administer & regulate resources like labour and wealth. while power and influence are related, they are separate concepts according to Political scientists I.C. Macmillan -
