Social Disorganization Theory
When community members are unable to come together under shared values or to solve problems together under a shared identity as one community, there is social disorganization. Social Disorganization Theory (SDT) has its roots in the Chicago School in the 70's from the earlier work of Park and Burgess on urban ecology, primarily that on urban ecology where dispersion from society's central function as 'one organism' and competition of resources have led to social problems and social stratification. Presently SDT is defined under the concepts influenced by Chicago School's Shaw and McKay (Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, 2021) and is still related to ecological concepts as well as migration, residential instability, delinquency and ethnic diversity.
