Full Spectrum Diversity vs. Affirmative Action

In the social sciences, diversity refers to varied aspects of the social world that makes each individual member similar and yet different from each other. It refers to belief systems, gender, ethnicity and racial make-up, age group, social class, political and social affiliations and all the other traditions/groups & social conditions that people are a part of or fervently follow. If you think of America, the American people cannot just be represented by one race, one social class. The American people are diverse because we follow varied religions, we have different ethnic and social make-up, we have varied social and political affiliations and we all belong to different social classes from the poorest to the richest. What makes us 'American' are our shared traditions and citizenship which, when pulled together, bridges our differences as part of our unique identities. Now, when we speak of Full Spectrum Diversity, we refer to an organizational concept and tool that helps organizations and groups make the most of the differences of their members. These days, it is almost instant to equate culture and race/ethnicity to the world diversity.
