Grubb, R. E. Jr., & Hemby, K. V.. (2003). Effective communication for criminal justice professionals. Belmont, CA: Wadsworth Group.
Recognize the importance of communication in the field of criminal justice. Please help me to describe the following:
1The communication process model
2Differences between the four major communication styles
3Benefits of using particular communication styles
4The importance of the communication process in law enforcement.
My access to Grubb's materials are secondary, therefore I decided to mix law enforcement policing styles with communication styles to answer your post. Good luck!
Communication Styles & Policing
Robert Grubb's expertise in domestic policing asserts itself in his views on effective communication for law enforcement. As such, it is no surprise that Grubb took note of the importance of developing excellent communication skills being that his observations brought this important factor in policing - officers spend hours speaking with people, writing reports, giving evidence in court & in order to do this effectively, they must somehow 'master' communication styles to get things done.
Police Officers must have that confidence & skill to effectively communicate in varied situations & settings. Effective police officers consciously monitor their own personal communication styles to control factors that might distract them from listening & observing effectively or from speaking to get one's message out clearly. Police Officer train on communication styles via the educational & route where they use psychology, assertion skills & body language on top of mastering particular communication styles that have been grouped according to their 'nature' & effectivity according to various situations. Also, the communication styles they adopt are according to the style of policing they practice that according to JQ Wilson can be lumped into 3 (the guard or watchman, legalistic policing & the service-oriented police).
For Grubb, the 4 communication styles in use in law enforcement are the same ones recognized in the wider society. Assertive communication is most natural of all, it is how we confidently express ourselves without games & manipulations being that one's self esteem is intact. ...
The solution looks at the comunication styles & theories used by law enforcement professionals. It looks at how particular communication styles are chosen in unique situation from that used in regular communication to situations that require employment of procedure for legal & constitutional purposes. It provides examples & definitions to explain the use of said styles & models with a focus on the 4 major communication styles provided by Grubb & hemby in their book on effective communication for those in criminal justice. A word format of the solution is attached.
