Communication Styles & Policing

Robert Grubb's expertise in domestic policing asserts itself in his views on effective communication for law enforcement. As such, it is no surprise that Grubb took note of the importance of developing excellent communication skills being that his observations brought this important factor in policing - officers spend hours speaking with people, writing reports, giving evidence in court & in order to do this effectively, they must somehow 'master' communication styles to get things done.

Police Officers must have that confidence & skill to effectively communicate in varied situations & settings. Effective police officers consciously monitor their own personal communication styles to control factors that might distract them from listening & observing effectively or from speaking to get one's message out clearly. Police Officer train on communication styles via the educational & route where they use psychology, assertion skills & body language on top of mastering particular communication styles that have been grouped according to their 'nature' & effectivity according to various situations. Also, the communication styles they adopt are according to the style of policing they practice that according to JQ Wilson can be lumped into 3 (the guard or watchman, legalistic policing & the service-oriented police).

For Grubb, the 4 communication styles in use in law enforcement are the same ones recognized in the wider society. Assertive communication is most natural of all, it is how we confidently express ourselves without games & manipulations being that one's self esteem is intact. ...
