Ask Custom Question

Visit some place that is culturally different than the environment you live in. Try and cross linguistic, ethnic and cultural barriers. Once you have found your place;

1) Sit and eat a meal in a restaurant of that culture. What do people look like? How are people interacting? Sounds? Smells? Foods? Any noticeable clashes with your culture? How do men and women interact? How would you anticipate reaching them with the Gospel?

2) Buy something from a store. Interact with the salesperson. How do you feel? What would it be like to live here every day?

3) Learn to say - "What is this?" and "How much is this?" and "Thank You" in the language of the culture you are visiting.

4) Any signs of spiritual light or spiritual darkness? Paintings, charms, idols? Can you get photos of those? Ask people who work in the stalls to tell you what the "artifacts" mean.

5) A "photo scavenger hunt." Take 10 photos of cultural artifacts from that culture. Cultural artifact is a term used to describe stuff that unique cultures produce, things and objects that cultures produce that are part of how they adapt to life. All cultures produce them - baskets, bowls, shoes, utensils (chopsticks) clothing.... Cultural artifacts.
In 2-3 pages write up your experience.

2- Have a look at the video attached about Islam, Judaism and Christianity living and practicing in Jerusalem. What might be challenges or barriers and bridges for genuine believers in sharing the Gospel in this context. Can you identify any shared values and culture that all the groups share? Have you been to this part of the world? Would you like to go?

Cross-Cultural Experiences

Cuisine - Asian food had always been available as an exotic or cultural alternative to many seeking new tastes. Asia is a massive continent with various cultures and nations including China, Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines, among others. The cuisines in these nations are rice-based where the carbohydrate element of the diet, the source of starch, is rice. Rice is often cooked steamed or boiled and viands or a tasty side dish that is full of flavor is eaten together with the bland tasting rice, creating a meal. I went to a Thai restaurant called Anajak Thai (Anajak Thai, 2022) which was operated by a Thai couple who have immigrated to the US. As soon as I entered the restaurant, it had a different feel. It felt restrained and more like a garden. There was a waterfall-like fountain on the small reception area decorated by bamboos and orchids. In the air is a smell of spices. Also, the name of the restaurant, in English and Thai script is framed in a traditional woodcarving at the back of the reception desk. The tables can seat 4 people and the chairs are comfortable. They are made of teakwood and have intricate carvings decorating them. On the walls are framed pictures depicting Thailand, from glittering palaces to beaches ...
