In the discussion of ethical use of technology in counseling if we did not also consider the use of technology in counselor education. Online program is the a new way to train counselors. This means is both advantageous (e.g., autonomous learning opportunities, asynchronous classroom strategies) and challenging (e.g., lack of face-to-face contact when giving and receiving feedback).
A presentation at the October 2010 Southern Association of Counselor Education and Supervision Conference given by Dr. Jane Meyers and Dr. Casey Barrio-Minton included the fact that within the next few years, approximately 1/3 of counselor education positions will be online positions.
