Studies suggest that psychotropic medicines have advantages and disadvantages. For instance, anti-psychotic medications are appropriate in treating some disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and anxiety disorders. Drugs can also be life-saving for people with General Anxiety disorder (GAD), and depression that are often treated with antidepressants. These drugs can be valuable in helping to control and/or reduce symptoms associated with these psychiatric diseases. The main problem with using psychotropic drugs is within tendencies to abuse prescription medications that could be addictive and dangerous. However, as studies show psychotropic medicines are taken for the purpose of improving the emotional and behavioral health of adults, children or adolescent, who has been diagnosed with a mental health condition (A guide... child and adolescent psychiatry, 2012).
