(Managing in the public sector: A casebook Sharp, B. S., Aguirre, G., & Kickham, K. (2011). in ethics and leadership. Boston, MA: Longman. ISBN:780136039754.).

A code of ethics is important in guiding decision making when values are in conflict and in helping to define acceptable behavior for members of an organization.

Provide the name of the organization or the organization that publishes the code of ethics that you found, for example, the American Society of Public Administration. Also provide the URL to the code of ethics.
Be sure that you are following APA guidelines when providing this information.

Using the information in your Managing in the Public Sector textbook (the Introduction you read for this unit) to guide your choices, identify the following:

• One ethical standard from the code of ethics you located that is based on teleological ethics (utilitarian theory).

• One standard that is based on deontological ethics (duty ethics).

Explain how your choices fit the ethical theories.

What are the basic differences between teleological and deontological ethics?

Please Note files 1 & 2 automatically added you don't need them, use the rest # 3 - 12.

Dear Student,
Hi and thank you for using Brainmass. In this particular task, you are being asked to put together very concise (250 words) reflection on a case and a code of ethics of an organization. I suggest making it simple and straightforward. Based on the materials you included, for part 1, Case 1 would fit better than Ethanol subsidy largely because it falls under the human services option, which is required of you, rather than Federal government. I suggest using this simple outline:

Part 1
1. Reasons for the case - 50 words
2. The ethical issue - 100 words
3. Theory - 100 words

Part 2
1. The Organization - 50 words
2. Teleological & Deontological Ethics manifestation in the code - 100 words
3. Explanation of fit & difference - 100 words

This outline should give you what you need. Just let me know via the feedback section if you need further clarification. In this solution I am assuming that you are familiar with all 3 and that you do not need a guide to further understand them. You can use the listed resources to further explore the topic. Just let me know via the feedback section if you need further clarification. All the best with your studies.

The Case of Mattel: Virtue Ethics Review

Find and read the following journal article to help you form a solution:
Sethi, S., Veral, E., Shapiro, H., & Emelianova, O.. (2011). Mattel, Inc.: Global Manufacturing Principles (GMP) - A Life-Cycle Analysis of a Company-Based Code of Conduct in the Toy Industry. Journal of Business Ethics, 99(4), 483-517.

While the Sethi et al. article is certainly a quite interesting case study, it is a very lengthy and fairly complex one as well. To this extent, I don't want you to simply recount the storyline of the article in your response to the requirements. Rather, I want you to locate and evaluate the most salient business ethics issue, critically analyzing them within the context of virtue ethics - and the questions that I have posed for you below.

Hartman, E.. (2008). Socratic Questions and Aristotelian Answers: A Virtue-Based Approach to Business Ethics. Journal of Business Ethics, 78(3), 313-328.

The following is the Problem to be solved:

Choose three virtues, and then discuss how the virtues you have selected may have more appropriately guided the actions and behaviors of the organization at issue. Finally, you will discuss which of the normative ethics we have studied in Modules 1, 2, and 3 (deontological, utilitarian, or virtue ethics) best inform the Case.

Please solve the following:

1) What I would like for you to do is to choose three (3) "virtues" and then provide a clear definition of each. For example, you might choose such virtues as temperance, justice, honesty, fairness, generosity, or kindness. Be sure that you define each virtue using a quality and objective secondary source.

2) Next, apply each of the three virtues you have chosen to the case. Tell me how each of the virtues you've chosen might have been used to appropriately guide the actions and policies of the company. You may discuss how each relates to such matters as the company's working conditions, worker safety, fairness, organizational attitudes towards the environment, etc.

3) Which of the three normative ethics we've studied - i.e., deontological, utilitarian, or virtue - do you believe is most useful in evaluating the Mattel case? Why?
