Few theorists explicitly refer to the way that minority status can affect personality development. Erikson is one exception: he believed that minorities were at risk of forming a negative identity because of their devalued status in society. Do you agree with this assumption? Why or why not? How can being a member of a minority group (whether it be a minority of sex, gender, race, culture, ethnicity, or class) affect the development of personality?

As you examine how few theorists explicitly refer to the way that minority status can affect personality development, other than Erikson, Yes, I do concur with his belief that minorities are at risk of forming a negative identity because of their devalued status in society. I agree with this assumption because if a child or teen is treated with hate or discrimination from peers or society overall, this treatment often carries over to the teen's self beliefs; as a result, it often impedes his or her normal development of personality, socialization, etc.
