To provide the most appropriate treatment program for their clients, psychologists require insight into the unique individual context and situation of their clients for a person-centered care approach (Wiltjer & Kendall, 2019). This applies to all clients, including older adults. There are various considerations in assessing older adults. It is important to note that successful aging requires the balance of these 3 concerns - "avoiding disease and disability, sustaining high cognitive and physical function, and engaging with life" (Comprenhensive Geriatric Assessment, 2022).
