Like the power the electricity to facilitate the direction of the energy flow, similarly is the power of the sense of purpose in life to facilitate the energy force that fuels creativity and a sense of purpose and direction in life. As the force of the flow of the energy to create electricity, so is force of a sense of purpose to create hope, heroes and opportunities. Amundson (2003) suggests that life purpose is the result of matching personal capabilities and interests ("what is inside of oneself") with external needs ("what is outside of oneself"). The electricity metaphor is somewhat helpful in linking energy flow and force to the direction and sense of purpose in ones life.
