When you are examining correlational data, you are looking at two variables to see if they are related to each other. The range of the degree of correlation goes form -1 to +1. There are three possibilities:

If the number is from -1 to 0, this means that the data are inversely correlated. When one variable increases, the other decreases.

If the number is 0, this means that there is no relationship between the variables

When the number is form 0 to +1, it means that the variables are positively correlated. When one goes, up, so does the other.
