Scholarly voice is third person and active. Avoid First person. For example:

AVOID statements like...."I will open the can." Avoid using such a sentence because it is first person
AVOID statements like ... "The can will be opened by the change agent." Avoid using passive voice unless it is the best way to make a point. It should be to a minimum.
USE statements like ... The change agent will open the can.
USE a mix of simple and compound sentences, that is logical and concise, in a language that can be understood clearly by an eighth grader.

Part 2
Qualitative and quantitative approaches to research are on two ends of a continuum and they are both ways of knowing.

If you are conducting research to find one answer to your research question out of a few choices_ Such that your research question could read something like, "What is the difference in university campus social change between universities programs which have an active social justice office and those that do not?
Here you are looking for:

-An approximation of truth (post- positivism)
Simply put, either the universities with a social justice office will have different outcomes on social change than those that don't OR there will be no difference. This is quantitative research.

If you are conducting research to find several possible answers your question could be "How do the ways in which faculty conceptualize social justice processes shape social change on university campuses?"
Here you are looking for :
-An interpretation of an experience (non-positivism or interpretive)

And each dictates the type of data ...
