Capital Punishment Issue: Pros & Cons

The Issue - "Should the Death Penalty Be Allowed?"

According to Procon.org (2015), "1,188 people were executed in the US from 1977 through 2009, primarily by means of lethal injection. Most death penalty cases involve the execution of murderers although capital punishment can also be applied for treason, espionage, and other crimes." Essentially, the issue which had always been divisive, is all about the rightness and wrongness of death as a form of punishment, the capital punishment for crimes or certain federal offenses including murder, kidnapping resulting in death, heinous crimes, treason and large-scale drug enterprise. Capital punishment is legal in 31 states in the US including Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia and Arizona. The application of capital punishment is limited by the 8th Amendment to the US Constitution where it is only applicable to mentally competent adults; offenders who are deemed mentally incompetent are not subjected to capital punishment.
