I've determined that the critical path for this network is A - E - F and the project
completion time is 22 weeks.
Here's where I need help: If a deadline of 17 weeks is imposed, what activities
should be crashed?
Activity Normal time Crash Time Normal cost Crash cost
A 12 8 8000 12000
B 14 10 5000 7500
C 8 8 10000 10000
D 5 3 6000 8000
E 4 3 5000 7000
F 6 5 9000 12000
G 10 8 5000 8000
Listing all paths with the durations:
Path Expected weeks
A-D 17
A-E-F 22
B-F 20
C-F 14
C-G 18
Since A-E-F is the path with longest duration, it is the critical path.
To complete the project within 17 weeks, we need to crash the activity on critical path, so we should crash A, or E or F.
1) We select activity E since its crash cost is the cheapest ($7000) among the three activities, and crash E from 4 to 3. ...
