Let's look at three theories for you to consider (reformation, rehabilitation and retribution), followed by three articles that are downloaded for further reading. Briefly, there has been a resurgence of debate about the retribution theory in law in the United States, since the reform theory has not worked. However, rehabilitation is one objective of the prison systems today e.g., to rehabilitate the inmate to stop committing criminal acts. Thus, there are certain aspects of all three theories in the prison system, including the deterrence theory.

Let's take a closer look.
