This article highlights the significant variables that have hastened the war on drugs becoming a failure on par with prohibition. It provides in-depth analysis on the correlations between the current war on drugs and increased drug use, drug cartels, and the similarities that the current failed drug policy have with prohibition, which was almost 100 years ago. In addition, the scholarly article also provides information on how the current drug policy can be updated to a more effective approach, which can actually combat drug cartels while helping those addicted to drugs.
