Renaissance Humanism refers to the philosophical and cultural movement that swept across Europe from the 14th through 16th centuries, starting in Italy. The earliest humanists were librarians, secretaries, teachers, courtiers, and privately supported artists of wealthy businessmen and merchants. This "spirit of learning" movement marked the end of the Middle Ages and signified the beginning of the modern era.
