1. Nurses' Educational Needs Assessment For Cooper Medical Hospital
The purpose of the educational need assessment was to decipher through the nurses' self-reported knowledge, attitudes, and skills how best to prepare them to provide the best care to children living with Asthma. Based on the learning needs assessment (out of a possible score of 400; nurses collectively scored 220)-Hardly enough for optimum care quality for children with asthma. Although nurses' self-reported awareness levels of asthma in children with regards to community referral sources for children with asthma and linking children and family to existing asthma resources at school and in the community was fair; the nurses still lacked many of the very important skills that are integral in asthma care for children.
To this end, an educational plan regarding nursing care for children with asthma was designed. In addition, a sample Likert scale survey template that includes questions on literature review on best practice for the nurses caring for children with asthma was developed. The nurses' assessment included key clinical activities for quality asthma care as well and recommendations of the national asthma education and prevention program-which included:
Assessment and monitoring; classification and severity of asthma; scheduling routine follow-up care; assessments for referral to specialty care; recommending measures to control asthma triggers; treating and preventing comorbid conditions; recommending and knowledge of medications according to severity; monitoring the of ß2-Agonist drugs; developing a written asthma management plan as part of the overall management of your patients with asthma; and providing routine education on patient self-management.
