The relationship of the development of nursing science to the profession is complex and direct. The development of nursing science is linked to the nursing profession through education, knowledge, research and the application of nursing ideas, concepts and theory to describe, explain, predict or prescribe nursing practice. The nursing profession, for example, applies research-based nursing strategies to nursing practice through being socialized into the nursing profession through nursing science. Higher education and nursing as a science initiatives expands nursing professionalism and opens new doors.

According to Dr Sharon L Van Sell (USA) and & Ioannis A Kalofissudis (GR) (n.d.), the profession of nursing recognizes socialization into a discipline is guided by theories use of language, identification of concepts, and definition of relationships, structured ideas, and facilitation of disciplined inquiry, practice and communication, as well as predicting outcome of nursing practice. This is the link between the nursing profession and the science of nursing. Thus, nursing professionals apply theory to describe, explain, predict or prescribe nursing practice. The science of nursing helps to educate the development of the individual as a nurse to be socialized into the nursing profession, which requires the individual understand the interlocking language, concepts, relationships, structured ideas, disciplined inquiry, and outcomes of nursing practice (science of nursing) which forms a comprehensive umbrella for multiple practice applications within the profession of nursing (http://www.nursing.gr/theory/).
