Political competence is about being politically savvy, being publicly aware of current issues in the community and then acting on this knowledge in a social responsible and accountable manner. In other words, political competence is one aspect of good corporate citizenship. Thus, the two concepts are interrelated. However, one could be politically competent, though, without being a good corporate citizen (e.g., politically savvy CEO with the focus ONLY on economic gains, such as Enron, WorldCom, and so on). For example, good corporate citizenship, (which includes political competence, as you cannot do the right thing socially unless you are armed with knowledge of the public and political agendas of the community) has to do with ethics, and doing the right thing, for both the company and the community at large. Thus, one part of being a good corporate citizen demands the skill of political competence, which is then flavored with ethical responsible and accountability (Longest, 2002).
