    One really recent issue that has come up is that of HIV infections causing Salmonella to mutate with less restriction into more dangerous strains. Epidemiological reports suggest that the rate of Salmonella infections are rising in areas where infections of HIV are common. It also appears that the strains of Salmonella in these areas are becoming different from the known strain - they're mutating.
