Identify your assigned article as quantitative or qualitative and support your assertion with an analysis of three defining characteristics.

This particular research article was quantitative with a descriptive and correlational design wherein the researchers used large-scale studies and with a specific focus on obesity in which the information was condensed and derived from a large number of specific data to develop a general description of the correlational relationship between American youth and obesity, which is based on a causal hypotheses. In addition, the objective of the research is to not be subjective, but rather be objective in its approach and remained detached from any type of assumptions or research practices used with qualitative research. This research article produced objective' numerical data that was independent of the researcher in controlled, exact approach that was predicated upon a pre-determined research design.

The researchers used measurements and analyses in a systematic and logically structured manner that can be easily replicated by other researchers. The researchers also relied upon previous literature comprised by other researchers to establish their research hypothesis based upon data that was retrieved from numerous research journals. This data served as the basis for the researcher's hypothesis on why American children suffer from some of the highest rates of obesity in the world.

•Describe, and critique the theoretical framework using the "Use of Theory Checklist" as a guide.

The theoretical framework of the research study is rooted in a methodological framework that is placated upon previously established research journal articles that rely upon data collection to comprise results. There is no established hypothesis in the research study as quantitative research articles and data isn't concerned with answering the reason why a phenomenon occurs, but rather is more concerned on data gathering, data analysis, and data interpretation.

•Analyze at least one assumption in your assigned article.

The assumption that children living in poverty are most impacted by high rates of obesity is correct, as these children face many obstacles to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and dietary management program. The rates of obesity in families living in poverty have tripled in the last few decades, which means that obesity as a disease will continue to plague America in the same sense that cancer currently can't be cured. The fact that childhood obesity can't eradicated like other epidemics of the past is a correct assumption made by researchers because obesity represents a highly complex problem that is predicated upon biological, behavioral, psychological, social, and environmental etiologic factors that are not easily fixed.
