    I have and assignment that is due soon and I'm not sure of the different types of essays and compare/contrast , descriptive, narrative, and persuasive essays and how to cite and offer feed back.

    First of all, you have to understand the definition of an essay in general. Usually, essay is a relatively short piece or writing (although some essays have been known to be quite long, chances are even the longest ones are not going to compare in length to a novel, for example). An essay is used by a writer for a number of different reasons. For example, an essay can be an entirely factual piece of writing reporting on some event, people or concepts. However, an essay can also be all about delivering someone's personal opinion on a subject. An essay can be written in a lot of different ways. It can be all serious, it can be full of personal anecdotes or pure facts, and it can be a humorous piece of writing. The style depends on the purpose of an essay and the writer.
    Next, essay can be of the following types: descriptive, comparative, narrative, augmentative (persuasive), critical and definition.
