IEPs will vary by state and even school district, but all have similar components. The first part will have student demographic information (name, DOB, age, grade, address, parent names and contact info.) Usually the next part covered will include the student testing information, which will have cognitive, academic, behavioral, social and functional assessments as appropriate for the individual. This information is the basis for placement decisions made by the team, along with grades, teacher observations, disciplinary records, and the student's strengths and weaknesses. All of this information creates a clear picture of where the student is currently.
