It is evidently essential for a child to have support from his or her parents during their academic journey. This journey often begins in the preschool setting; however, there are so many parents who do not understand their role when it comes to supporting their child in their education. For some parents, this may be their first child entering into school and do not know what is expected of them. For other parents, they are pre-occupied with work and other extracurricular activities and do not spend the time needed to enhance the education of their preschooler.

Preschool children need the support of their parents as they learn the basic foundation of their academic future. If parents participate in their child's education, it helps to boost their child's success. A parent being involved with their child's education in school as well as at home can have a significant impact on their child's lives. Research shows that children whose parents are involved (Gurian, n.d.):
• Have less frequent absenteeism
• Behave better in school
• Do better academically better
• Go farther in schools
• Go to better schools

There are a number of ways that the needs of the students and parents can be met. Some of these ways are (Mendoza, 2012):

1. An online survey could be given to staff and teachers to determine what needs are to be met.

2. A survey would be sent home with each child to determine the willingness of parents to participate in their child's education.

3. An analysis of the surveys would be calculated to determine the percentage of parents that are willing to assist in their child's education by participating at home.

4. An analysis of the surveys would be calculated to determine the percentage of parents that are willing to assist in their child's education by participating at home and in the school.

5. An analysis of the surveys would be calculated to determine the percentage of parents who are not willing to participate in furthering their child's education by participating.

In addition, the Principle meets with all teachers on a monthly basis to discuss all pertinent information regarding the students and the needs of the staff that they consider to be in the best interest of the school.

There are a number of strategies that can be used to get parents involved in their child's education. It is important to have the resources available to suit each child's needs as well as the needs of the parent.
