TERMINAL SERVER:
INTRODUCTION:
Hardware or software that connects to the terminals to a host computer, and it was a stand-alone front end processor attached to a mainframe or facilities within a central computer. Now a day, it is software in a network server.
ROLE OF TERMINAL SERVER:
The Terminal Services server role in the Windows Server 2008 operating system provides technologies that enable users to access Windows -based programs that are installed on a terminal server, or to access the full Windows desktop. The Terminal Services users can access it from within a corporate network or from the Internet.
TYPES OF SOFTWARE LICENSING:
Terminal Services Client Access License: This license provides each client computer or Windows-based terminal the legal right to access Terminal Services on a Windows 2000-based server. For example, you must have this license to start a terminal session and run Windows-based programs on the server. All non-Windows 2000-based clients must have this type of license.
MODEM SERVER
INTRODUCTION:
Modem Server allows subsequent authorizations to take place more rapidly. The Modem Server Option allows Windows workstations to share modems for EDC authorizations and settlement transactions. It is designed to be used in high-volume network environments.
ROLE OF MODEM SERVER:
Modem Server is a separate application that runs on a Counter Point workstation. In a typical configuration, a dedicated workstation acts as the Modem Server for multiple client registers.
