Solution:

My place of work is at the University. We have a separate IT department that handles al the computers at my workplace. There are over 250 computers in different locations in the University. But the bulk of these computers are located in two computer labs, the first having 50 computers with Windows XP as the Operating system. The second lab has 50 computers with SCO UNIX loaded as the Operating System.

The rest of the University has PCs with Windows XP as Operating system, and in a few computers, dual operating systems have been installed with a combination of Linux and Windows XP.

Reasons for selecting Windows XP

a) The primary reason for installing Windows Operating system in the computer lab was to cater to the needs of students who were working on Windows based software including Visual Studio and MS Office.
b) Although there are many Open Source based software including Word Processing and Spread sheet software, the reason to opt for Windows XP was the ease of use of MS Office and at the same time giving students enough exposure to Microsoft products as it is still the leading Operating System used in the World.
c) As far as the individual workstations in other departments are concerned, the ease of use is one of the key ...
