A cellulose polymer is shown (2 glucose monomers joined by a glycosidic bond) ----- as drawn by our professor, the oxygen in the monomer/polymer appears to have 2 unpaired electrons ---- is this true and does that make the monomer/polymer anionic???

Most importantly....we are asked to determine how methanol (CH3OH)is derived from cellulose --- is this a chemical reaction??? What precursor chemistry in wood allows methanol to be produced??
