MARKETING FUNCTION: GOVERNMENT /NOT-FOR-PROFIT AND PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS
Marketing plays a very important role in both profit and not-for profit or government organizations. In a private organization, marketing's job is to convert societal needs into profitable opportunities (Kotler, 1999). The main focus is to maximize the value of the firm to its owners or shareholders. In a government and not/for/profit organizations, marketing's job is to convert societal needs into opportunities to provide benefits not only for specific individuals for the public in general. The main focus is provision of maximum aggregate social benefit possible.
