Internship and its values:

Internship is an on-job training offered mostly to college or university students, but in some cases can also be offered to high school students or post graduate students seeking skills for a new career. Internship is similar to apprenticeship, in a way that it is also training for white-collar jobs, which students can take up post completing their degrees. Internships provide a number of benefits to students like providing opportunities to gain experience in their field, determining their area of interest for building a particular career, for creating a network of contacts, or to gain school credits. To employers, internship is a means to gauge the fresh talent from top schools and to have temporary access to cheap or free resources for doing low-level tasks. Internships may be fully paid, partly paid, or unpaid depending on the requirement of the company and its agreement with universities and colleges. However, it is noted that paid internships are usually in areas such as engineering, architecture, medicine, law, technology, and business.

Values of internship are numerous, mostly for students. Internships are like a trial run for one's corporate career which starts after completion of the degree. However once full time career starts it is not easy to make a move between different areas of interest, but with internship that is possible. Students can develop industry specific capabilities in their area of interest or expertise while enjoying the advantages of still being a student. Internships help students become strong candidates when they seek employment after graduation. In fact, many employers consider internship experience in the hiring process, and often look back at their own interns as potential candidates for full-time positions. Hence, among various values of internship are development of strong teamwork, individual responsibility, opportunity to experiment with different areas, and chance to develop industry specific skills.
