1. Here are two types of constraints that a projects face "Technical and Resource constraints". Provide examples and suggest ways to address these constraints.

2. When resource-leveling a project, a number of heuristics can help us prioritize those activities that should receive resources first. Explain how each of the following heuristics works and give an example:

Activities with the smallest slack
Activities with the smallest duration
Activities with the lowest identification number
Activities with the most successor tasks
Activities requiring the most resources

Solution Summary

Understanding how technical and resource constraints have an impact to the schedule and the completion of the project. Even if you have these constraints, learning how to identify and manage them is critical for the program managers to have a successful project.

Answers:
1. Technical constraints deal with the processes required to complete an activity or assembly.  These are the most common types of constraints. The completion of each predecessor task determines when the next task can begin. It may be necessary for the project manager to make some judgment calls in modifying the sequencing of tasks or use best practices from past experiences or similarity to adjust the schedule. A program manager can also use logical constraints (Wysocki, 2009 pp. 168) to optimize the current schedule. Unique requirements (Wysocki, 2009 pp. 169) are a type of technical constraints that deal with a critical resource or a task that has a special requirement that affects the successor task such as materials testing, regulatory inspections, and specialized equipment.
An example is that you are told that you must use your organization's printing department to reproduce the new users' manuals for the system you're developing. You don't know what the manual will look like, how many pages it'll be, the number of copies you'll need, or when you'll need them. ...
