He has empathy, competence, and the confidence to delegate tasks. During project management there are setbacks. The raw material is not available in time; there are utility outages, and scope changes. An effective project manager is crucial here. At one level he maintains the enthusiasm of the team members at another level he provides direct support at crucial points. The effective project manager helps the project team overcome setbacks. This is the key to successful project management. An effective project manager is not easily flustered; he has team building skills, and problem solving skills. These are crucial for successful completion of projects. In project management bottlenecks are common. One task is not completed and the entire project is stalled. Not only do project team members wait for the bottleneck to be resolved, some actually leave for their functions. Several projects are stalled because of bottlenecks. The effective project manager remains cool under pressure, and uses his problem solving skills to resolve the problem. He ensures that the team remains together, the objectives of the project are achieved, and the bottlenecks are solved with his abilities. He has confidence in his skills.
