If one is going to make the case that Americans are among the most carnivorous of nations it should be made clear whether that is per capita or as a nation as a whole. Since we are among the top five most populous nations in the world it makes logical sense that as a nation we eat more meat than other nations. However, if it were to be based on per capita nations I would venture to guess that we eat less meat than many European and South American countries.

The second phrase I take issue with is the term "inhumane conditions." Notice that "inhumane" comes from the Latin "inhumanus" meaning "not human or not up to human standards". It makes no logical sense to use the term inhumane when describing issues that are not related to interrelationships between people. Animals and plants are not human therefore they are not to be described or treated in human terms.
