In the clip that is from Dead Poets Society, the leadership style of Mr. Keating is transformational leadership style. John Keating strives to make the lives of students extraordinary (a). He asks them to stand on their desks, rip out introduction of their poetry books, and asks them to walk differently. He is transformational because he works with students to identify the needed change, creating a vision to guide through inspiration, and executing the change. In contrast, Gale Nolan uses the influence (power) model and uses coercive power. For example, he uses corporal punishment to force students to do as he wishes. Neither is Keating style or Nolan's style appropriate. Keating's style will lead to indiscipline and chaos and Nolan's style will suppress the enthusiasm, creativity, and spirit of students.
