The concepts of transformational leadership were first introduced by James Mac-Gregor Burns in the year 1978. Previously he brought in the conceptions of transformational leadership in his descriptive research on political leaders, but now this term is exercised in organizational psychology also (Bass & Riggio, 2006). According to Burns, transformational leadership is a procedure in which leaders and followers assist each other in going on to a superior level of confidence and enthusiasm.
Transformational leadership is a well-known leadership approach that produces valuable and convinced alteration in the associates and followers with the ending aim of explicating associates and followers into leaders (Luthans, 1998). Transformational leadership is a procedure that alters and transforms individuals. In other words, this approach of leadership is the power to get people to want to alter, to develop, and to be guided (Hall, Johnson, Wysocki & Kepner, n.d.).
It regards evaluating followers' needs, fulfilling their motives and valuing them. Consequently, a transformational leader could make the company more flourishing by respecting and valuing its associates and followers (Cherry, 2010). A transformational leader concentrates on "altering" others to assist each other, to watch out for each other, to be promoting and tuneful, and to watch out for the organization altogether. This leadership theory involves "leaders and followers" (Luthans, 1998).
With this approach of leadership, the leader tries to heighten the enthusiasm, confidence and presentation of his followers through an assortment of means. These comprise associating the follower's awareness of individuality and self to the duty and the corporate uniqueness of the organization; personifying a trend-setter for followers that prompts them; demanding followers to undertake superior charge of given work, and realizing the intensities and failings of followers, so the leader can effectively coordinate followers with tasks and duties that enhance their functioning (Hall, Johnson, Wysocki & Kepner, n.d.).
