Employee Orientation Programs

One of the earliest employee contacts with the training function is through an orientation program, designed distribute information to new employees quickly and efficiently.

Present an outline for an orientation program to the manager of training. The orientation program will provide a development process for the growth of the employee. The outline should include a purpose statement, elements of the program, method of delivery for each module, and a plan for evaluating the program upon completion and six months into an employee's tenure with the company.

Purpose Statement:

One of the most important steps in the development of a new hire to the organization is a comprehensive orientation program that is carefully planned and strategically executed. The purpose of the orientation program is to ensure that the newly hired employee gets off to a great start. The orientation program is a step by step process for the employee to follow that will cover all the important information needed to help them understand the company, the culture, the policies, the performance metrics and goals, and finally, the importance of their role in helping the company to be successful (Akdere & Schmidt, 2008).

The overall objective of the orientation program is to make sure new employees are adequately informed and become familiar with all the duties and responsibilities of their new role. Upon successful completion of the orientation program, the employee should be clear on what the company's expectations are, the definition of success and failure, and where they fit in to the overall big picture in the organization and what they are expected to contribute to help meet company targets.

Development Outline:

Upon being recruited for a role in the company, the Human Resource coordinator will assign a mentor from within the company to begin orientation from day one. The duty of the mentor will be to make sure the employee feels a warm welcome and gets a great first impression upon arriving.
