The industry was the audio industry and the product is audio speakers that fitted into walls and ceilings so that the customers were able to enjoy music throughout their homes without compromising interior design and architectural considerations to accommodate large cabinet speakers. The other products that followed were in-wall subwoofer, unique dual driver speaker technology, three channel amplifier- bass, left, and right, in wall speaker with adjustable high-frequency, amplifier for multi-room use, in wall home theater speaker, amplified volume control technology for multi-room, THX Ultra in-wall speaker system, coaxially mounted pivoting midrange tweeter mechanism, customizable multi-room amplifier, in wall and in ceiling high fidelity speakers, and in-wall music system for Apple iPod (1).

Situational Analysis:
Please say that the key situational factor was that local manufacturing arrangement of Sonance led to the emergence of a competitor namely SpeakerCraft. Sonance moved its manufacturing to Asia which reduced its manufacturing costs but still pitted it in a fierce price competition with SpeakerCraft (20).

Political/legal environment:
The political environment provided stability and the legal environment provides protection from copyright violation. When SpeakerCraft produced speakers that were identical to those of Sonance, it sued the company. However, because of poor legal advice, Sonance lost the legal battle over copyrights.

Economic Environment:
During the period there was economic growth which was fuelled in part by the growth of information technology. In this background not only was there a strong market demand for speakers but there was also growth in the customer segments of mass marketing customer electronics retailers and production home builders. The strong economic growth was also reflected in the 20 percent annual growth in sales revenues of Best Buy. The rising interest rates also indicated that the economy was upbeat. From the perspective of Sonance, the mass marketing electronics retailers and production builders offered excellent opportunities for growth.

Socio-cultural:
The socio-cultural trends during the period were that customers made purchases from electronic retailers. In addition, the demand for housing was also increasing. The trend relevant to Sonance was that customers were not averse to having holes punched in their walls and ceilings for installing audio speakers. The socio-cultural trend was to buy consumer electronics. The products of Sonance formed a part of the audio segment of the consumer electronics segment. A combination of product cycle and economic factors drove the demand for consumer electronics.

Technological Environment:
