The following functions that are important, but performed behind the scenes, for Bead Bar are as follows:
1. Manage data storage
Handling data storage is one of the main functions of DBMSs. The interface and layout must be very user friendly since there are concerns of training users.
2. Transform data into information and present it to users
3. Provide security for data
Data is a vital corporate asset. Bead Bar must ensure security of their database. Since security threats sometimes come from people within an organization and from outside sources database security is essential.
4. Allow for multi-user access
5. Contain a database programming
6. Provides a data dictionary, which is used to define the structure of the database.
The recommended model would be the Enterprise DBMSs, such as Oracle's 9i Database software, since it seems appropriate for Bead Bar and their franchisees who are located in multiple locations. The executives all have different needs and this will allow the company to store large amounts of data.
