    The three components of commitment are identification, long-term membership and extra role behaviour. Identification refers to identification with the organization's goals and a display of pride and defense of the organization. Long term membership is essentially loyalty to the organisation, evidenced by long tenure, and extra role behaviour is behaviour beyond the required performance. Commitment as a force is different from motivation. It is a stabilizing force that acts to maintain behavioural direction when expectancy/equity conditions are not met.
