New Employee First Assignment Worksheet

Employees want to feel valuable and have an impact on their organization. Assigning them a project to work on immediately allows them to feel like they are contributing right from the start. Chose an assignment that provides the employee with a 'quick win' and builds confidence in their new job role. Look for an assignment that provides collaboration with their co-workers and/or other departments.
Once the assignment begins, be sure to check-in with the employee to ensure the goals and expectations are understood. Following completion of the assignment, debrief with the employee to understand what went well, what could have been done differently, what they liked best/least and how they felt their interaction with you was during the process. Remember to celebrate success.

Where can the employee get resources that are required for the assignment?
Are there any obstacles that the employee might encounter while working on the project?
How should the employee address and obstacles?
How often do you want to meet your employee to ensure project is meeting your expectations?
Once the project is complete, how will you celebrate success?
