The four management functions of planning, organizing, leading and controlling are among the skills that managers and leaders possess that can influence an organization. However, these skills are limitless and they vary according to an individual's personality traits, specifically, transactional or transformational leadership styles. Although managers practice a variety of techniques, which may be either technical or conceptual, these skills do not necessarily result in a sense of effectiveness in the performance of the four management functions.
It is very important that the manager defines the basic functions of planning and organizing as without a proper idea of how things are going to be done; the leading and controlling functions won't be effective. For instance, in helping the organization achieve its goals, the personnel will appreciate if management gives them the support, recognition and rewards (which may not necessarily be material) that arise out of their efforts and support in attaining the organization's objectives.
